Synopsis
On a frigid winter day, Said begins his first job on a remote German farm. He carries out his work with care, but beneath the surface of everyday interactions, a quiet tension begins to build.
Director´s note
Inspired by my mother’s journey as a Brazilian immigrant in Germany in the 1980s, this project is very personal to me. I often witnessed how xenophobia does not exist only in obvious forms, but also in what remains unspoken, in what happens between the lines.
I wanted to highlight these subtle nuances, the small gestures and underlying attitudes that many people are not sensitized to recognize, where it often already begins. By bringing attention to these moments, the film aims to create a deeper awareness of how racism can operate quietly yet persistently.
He Looked at the Moon and Waved premiered at Cine Brasil Filmfestival in Berlin (2024). Later it was shown at the DOJO Headquarter in Berlin (2024). The film was screened at the Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF) in Niterói, Brazil, in a final-year audiovisual class led by Professor Hadija Chalupe (2025).
